Good morning, my fellow partners in caffeinated crime. As the sun rises and the coffee brews, let’s gear up for another day of adulting— complete with witty banter and procrastination. I mean, this Substack is titled “The Recess Hour” after all.
As you can tell by the above photo, this weekend we visited a pumpkin patch farm to kick off our quintessential fall family fun activities for the season. The real icing on the cake though was my toddler’s epic tantrum upon leaving. Nothing like going out with a bang, right?

This month is always my busiest of the entire year (work-wise). Lots going on with brands for holiday campaigns + coupled with my favorite time of the year (aka: fall fashion) so I feel like I’ve been on full speed for the last couple of weeks with no slowing down for another month.
We are planning a big trip down to the southeastern States to visit my side of the family for the last 2 weeks of October. We’re stopping first in Charleston, then to Savannah to visit my grandma (who is 98 BTW!) and my Aunt. Autumn has never met either of them so it will be a really special time. And, finally, ending in Florida to visit my Dad. We’ve never been to Charleston or Savannah so we’re really excited to explore! While I’m a bit nervous as we booked this well before the hurricanes, I am hoping for the best. As a type A personality in true form, I have already booked all of our resos —and vetted the restaurants by stalking the reviews online— and planned our itinerary.
Last weekend I was invited to an event with La Mer for the launch of the newest product: The Rejuvenating Night Cream. I don’t often do brand trips for a number of reasons but every once in a while I go for it, and this trip was *most definitely* worth it. I often get nervous going into events not knowing anyone but 9/10 times it usually turns out great— I met a couple of wonderful fellow creators alongside the amazing La Mer team, and had a night full of serenity and calm. Here’s what I wore to dinner the one night we were there:
I kept it simple. Here’s to hoping you all get the chic Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy vibes I was going for and not that I’m coming across as lazy with my dress code.

Read a DM yesterday that said “this is your best fit ever!” and will now be wearing this once a week for the rest of the year. I had so many questions about the coat in my DMs and, sadly, it is quite old (from a Revolve x Dundas collab a couple years back) but you might be able to find it second hand? The jeans are Reformation, and the classic uggs are linked here.

What I wore to the pumpkin patch. Also would be a cute fall family photoshoot idea (I say this because I, oddly enough, get questions about what to wear to a fall family photoshoot). It’s more common of a request than I would’ve thought.

As the leaves turn from green to gold and the air gets a little crisper, it’s about that time of the year where I give my feet a seasonal upgrade. I’m on my feet 95% of the day, whether in the kitchen (where most of my time is spent trying to please a picky eater) or out for walks/ errands so my footwear needs to scream “comfort” but still cute. I made the mistake in previous years of buying into trends that I never ended up wearing. For example, last year I bought those trending chunky loafers and ended up looking like a clown, wearing them once and never again.
This year I’m focusing on shoes that 1) fit my lifestyle, 2) are in line with my personal style, and 3) I feel comfortable in. I *love* colour palettes that embrace rich, warm hues like deep burgundy, that are also seamless to mix and match with most items you already own, and are timeless staples. I ordered these burgundy flats and am still giddy each time I pull them out of my closet to throw on. The colour makes me so, so happy, coupled with the fact that I wear ballet flats constantly and have been my go-to shoe for years.
I also splurged and ordered these boots because I know how often I wear boots this time of year. While an investment, I knew they are a timeless staple that will last me many, many years to come. I also have invested in some fitted insoles to which I now wear in all of my shoes.
Other notable mentions I have worn for years and years are my tall Hunter boots, classic Uggs, and Birkenstocks. All very cozy and the rubber Hunter boots are great for those muddy days ahead.
Baby/ Toddler Extras:
How cute are these fall-themed diapers I found at Walmart? Honest truly knows how to mix aesthetic with life’s messy moments.. It’s the little joys, amiright?
Speaking of baby products, now that the weather is cooling down, and the dry season is starting —I have already noticed a dry throat/ nostrils in the mornings & and pulling out my humidifiers because of it— I use this lotion for sensitive skin.
Since PRIME DAY is here: I cannot recommend this portable high chair enough. It’s the gift I give to all my new mom friends. We used ours every single day until Autumn turned 2 and outgrew it. It’s so easy to bring with you on trips and outings, and easy to clean.

Instead, if you feel inclined to support my journey further, I’ve included a “Buy Me a Coffee” button. It’s a simple way to show your appreciation, and every gesture of support helps fuel my passion for writing.
While I may consider reopening my offerings in the future, I want to ensure that, when I do, it will be well worth the time and investment of my paying subscribers. Your support means the world to me, and I am committed to delivering value that reflects that gratitude.
Until next time,
