The big move
I’m crowning 2024 as my year of change. Both physically and virtually.
At the end of 2023 I had no idea what was in store for me but, seemingly, change was in store. First, I moved my newsletter subscribers over to Substack— namely for two reasons: 1. I wanted a more comprehensive user experience for my readers, and, 2. I’m reverting back to my old-school ways (blogging). I find I can be more candid and, generally, get personal over here. Plus, I finally get to put my degree in journalism to good use!
Second, after many months of searching, my husband secured a great 2-3 year contract for a job at the start of March. This job was located in Vancouver. While this isn’t our first move due to the nature of his job (if you’ve been around for a few years now, you’ll remember we temporarily moved to the Bahamas), this time around does feel different. It feels more... permanent. Of course I don’t know what the future holds for us but, albeit still new, I feel very at home here in Vancouver. The turn around time was QUICK- 1 month to be exact. So we had to rent out our home in Edmonton, and *fast*, find good tenants, transfer all our things and pack like crazy. All while caring for a never-stops-moving toddler.
When we came out a few weeks before our move to look at properties, after searching for days on end to find a place we’d feel comfortable in, all the stars aligned and we found the most perfect spot. It’s a small fisherman’s village just on the outskirts of Vancouver, full of young families and established individuals. We will get to visit the beach within walking distance in the summers, and the many farmers markets surrounding our area throughout all months of the year. Plus, as a native Texan, you can imagine my excitement for more mild weather (saying goodbye to -40 winters was easy for me, saying goodbye to family was not.)
I’m happy to say that after weeks of chaos (as a ‘type A’ individual you can imagine my anxiety during such), we have finally settled and can take time to explore our new surroundings. Walking along the pier, stopping at all the small local spots, learning about our new area and it’s history, it really is a place full of charm.
I’m beyond excited to share this new chapter with you. Get ready for many more fun treats to come!
Until next time,
—Amber
